Girl From Space

(Uriana: u-rain-na)
            There was Uriana; sitting on the window still of a tall, dark, stony, and ghastly looking tower. After being thrown from space into this tower, she didn’t know what her purpose was in life-or-who her family was. Right now, her powers concealed in her locket were the only comforts she had. Uriana sighed what was she to do?
            She looked down and saw the ground-it was a 10-foot jump; could she make it? Only one way to find out-she closed her eyes, and jumped. Seconds later she was flat on her face in the soft, high grass. She slowly sat up; blinking-then she stood up and looked around her;
            Tall grass that was up to her waist, surrounded her-as did a forest-she decided to keep walking-she would find her purpose in life if she keep walking in the same direction; surely she would, so that’s what she did.
            After a while, she came to a small puddle-she looked down at her reflection: long, dirty-blonde, tangled hair; a gold, gothic dress with black branches on it; no shoes; and-the face of a radiant angel.
            Who was she?
            Suddenly, she heard a very loud noise-she looked up, leapt over the puddle, and hurried out of the thickness of the forest and out in the middle of a long road with squadrons-or at least that’s what they looked like-moving in two different directions in two different lanes. She stopped and stared-unsure of what to make of this. She looked left; she looked right; yes-it was no joke…
            She. Was. Lost.
            “Hello, may I help you?”
            Uriana turned toward the voice and saw a handsome (hey, he was!) bafoon (at least that’s what they were called on her planet-wait; how did she know that?). the bafoon smiled and began again;
“What’s your name?”
            “Name? What is name?” she asked-very confused.
            “Name; something that your parents called you when you were born.” The bafoon explained. Uriana brightened;
            “Oh-you mean Psych!” Did she actually know that?
            Now he was the one confused; “Well, I suppose you could call it that.”
            Uriana smiled and held out her left hand, “I am Psych, Uriana.”
            The bafoon hesitated, but also held out his left hand, “I am Psych, Ben.”
            Uriana looked him over-so the bafoon was now, Ben, fascinating! He smiled again and asked;
            “Where did you come from?”
            Uriana looked down shyly, “I do not know.”
            “Where are you going?”
            “I know not that either.” She looked up at him only to find him smiling at her again, “Tell me,” she asked, “Do all bafoons smile unceasingly?”
            He looked very shocked at this comment, “B-bafoon? Is that what you just called me?”
            “You are one-are you not; you do not look like a Kittler; because your hair is not long-so what else could you be except a monster.” Her eyes widened, “Are you a monster?”
            He quickly shook his head, “No, no, of course not.” Then his eyes also went wide and he chuckled quietly behind his coat, “When you say, bafoon, do you mean, male?” Uriana nodded, “And, Kittlers, are female?” Uriana nodded again, he smiled and nodded also, “I get it now.” Then he paused, “Would you like to come home with me so I can learn more of your words-I have a guest room for you.”
            Uriana smiled-she liked this bafoon.
            A little while later, Ben unlocked the door to his apartment and showed Uriana in, he pointed to the couch;
            “Shall we sit on the couch to talk?”
            Uriana nodded, “Coffin.”
            Ben was shocked, “In our world-a coffin is were we put people who had died.”
            “Dead people are placed on Frinks; in my world.”
            “How is it that you don’t know what your world is-but you remember words from it?” Ben asked curiously.
            Uriana shrugged, “I guess once you are taught words-you always remember them.”
            “Tell me more of your words,” Ben started as they first sat down.
            Uriana thought for a moment and looked around; then she tapped the wooden long thing in front of her; “Vendee.”
            “Table.” Ben completed.
            Next, she pointed to the thing next to the table; “Kulich.”
            “Chair.”
            Pretty soon-they made quick a list:

             Bafoon: male

Kittler: female
Psych: name
coffin: couch
Frink: coffin
Vendee: table
Kulich: chair
Ladd: curtain
Daft: hat
Klein: jacket
Lihue: door
Bile: kitchen
Clasher: bed
            Kef: book
            Fluid: food
            Folk lathe zilch: I am happy:
            Zech slur axis lull jilt life: you are my very best friend
            Ben was touched at that last one-was that how Uriana saw him? He looked at Uriana who smiled at him; he smiled back and thought; I guess people who just met could be best friends-or-jilt life; as Uriana so kindly puts it. He smiled to himself at that.
            Ben and Uriana did everything together; but just as life started getting better for Uriana-it got a whole lot worse…

            …While Ben and Uriana had their fun; a dark figure watched from the shadows, and that figure was none other then, Casein himself, Master of the Dark. He smiled evilly-he had searched for the alien girl-and now he had found her. He watched as the two friends headed inside a building, then he leapt out of the shadows and onto the rooftop in one swoop. Next, he walked over to a door, opened it, and walked down the steps-using his alien scanner to search for aliens.
            Beep. Beep. Beep. Casein stopped in his tracks-the alien was on this floor-he could sense it. He opened the door and peeked out; the hall was empty, so he walked out and down the hall…
            Beep.
            Casein stopped in front of a door and leaned his ear against it-listening:
            “Wow, Uriana-you’re getting good!”
            “I try hard to knock the king off his post.”
            “With a simple pawn! I always have to use the queen.”
            Their conversation puzzled Casein; were they trying to kill the king of Avaga? He listened harder;
            “Because a pawn is so small and unnoticeable-they can easily kill a king and no one would even know it was them!”
            “Let’s do it again tomorrow.”
            Casein was shocked now-they were trying to kill him! The evil villain quickly fled back to his ship to report to his king; King Lathe of Avaga-which was Uriana’s home planet.
            “Are you certain?” King Lathe asked.
            “I am certain your lordship.” Casein answered over his ship radio.
            “Then you must capture Uriana and her human friend-what is his name?”
            “I’m sorry, I do not know.” Casein replied sadly.
            “Bring them to me.” The king finished-then he hung up.

            Meanwhile, Ben and Uriana decided to take a walk-but as soon as they walked outside, Uriana felt really wrong. She turned to Ben;
            “Someone is here, Ben-someone bad.”
            Ben was instantly alarmed, “Who?”
            “I do not know-but what I do know is that he is from my planet-and he has come for me.”
            “Where is he? I’ll deal with him!”
            “No!” Uriana protested quietly, “I do not want you to be hurt-go inside where you are safe.”
            “Too late for that.”
            Uriana and Ben slowly turned to find Casein smiling evilly at them;
            “Hello, my name is Casein-and I’ve come on behalf of all the people of Avaga.”
            “Case in?” Ben questioned, “What kind of name is case in?”
            Casein was furious; “Not case in-case-sim!”
            “Like Case Justin -but Case Sim?”
            Casein was furious now, “Case-sim. Not Case Justin. Not Case Sim. But Case-sim; one word-not two. Now be quiet so I can kidnap you.”
            Ben’s eyes grew wide, “You’re not serious-are you?” Casein laughed and pulled a lever-a cage fell down right overtop of the two friends, Ben pretended to look amused, “Oh-right. You were.”
            Casein laughed, loaded them up, and they were off to Avaga.
            When they arrived, Ben looked around;
            “Where are we?” he asked Casein, who laughed;
            “Why don’t you ask Uriana.” Then he vanished.
            Ben turned to Uriana who looked very astonished, “Uriana?” he asked. She turned to him, pale-faced;
            “Ben, this is Avaga-the planet of my birth.”
            Ben was shocked, “What else do you remember?”
            “Not much-just waking up to a dirty shack that was scheduled to be knocked down, getting kicked out, and…being thrown into space on a tower.” So that’s where she came from.
            “So-that’s how you came here.”
            Uriana nodded, “But I have nowhere else to go-so I do not want to stay here…” she was going to say ‘…I want to stay on Earth, with you.’ But decided against it.
            “Where do you want to stay…” Ben drifted off his final words; ‘you can stay with me’.
            Before Uriana could answer, Casein appeared and brought them to the palace of King Lathe.
            King Lathe was furious when they entered his throne room;
            “How dare you plan to kill me!”
            “What are you talking about?” Ben asked.
            The king turned to Casein who played a tape:

Ben: “Wow, Uriana-you’re getting good!”
            Uriana: “I try hard to knock the king off his post.”
            Ben: “With a simple pawn! I always have to use the queen.”
            Uriana: “Because a pawn is so small and unnoticeable-they can easily kill a king and no one would even know it was them!”
            Ben: “Let’s do it again tomorrow.”

            The king grew more angry; “Well? Was that your voice on the tape or not-speak up!”
            Ben got it now, “Yes-it was our voices-we admit; but we weren’t actually talking about killing you. Here-let me show you what we were doing.” The king, Casein, and Uriana watched as Ben got out his phone and pushed a few buttons, he walked up to the king and showed him the picture that he brought up, “This is called a Chessboard-your majesty.” Then he pointed to the pieces as he said what they were called; “This is a rook, knight, bishop, king, queen, and the pawns. You see, your majesty-when we were talking about knocking the king off his post-we meant the king in chess-not you. The point of chess is to get the king out; not a real king; a fake one.”
            King Lathe looked thoughtful, “I see,” he turned to Casein, “Casein-I’m afraid we made a mistake.”
            Casein bowed, “I will return them to Earth at once.

            So all went well for Ben and Uriana-and it wasn’t long before they got married and started their own family.

The End
